My name is Mr Clayton Duggan, but everyone that knows me calls me Clay. I am very much looking forward to being the Music Teacher, as well as the Head of the Aesthetics Department at the new campus in Sigtuna.
I am originally from the United States, though I have lived on 4 continents, having spent time abroad as a child and then again as an adult teaching in international schools. I am wrapping up my sixth year at a British international school in New Delhi, where I have been teaching Music and leading the Primary Performing Arts Department.
I have actually known about IES for a long time, and have admired it from afar for the attention it gives to academic achievement and calm learning environment. I have been particularly excited since I learned about this new campus in Sigtuna because of the proximity to nature, being steps away from the forest and the lake. I love to take long meandering walks and Sigtuna looks like the perfect place for it.
For me, Music is the best way to bring a community together, and we certainly have a big task of building a new community this fall, with new students and staff coming together in this brand new beautiful space. I can’t wait to meet all of you this fall so that we can start making some great harmonies.
Besides my passion for music and education, I have an adventurous side. I have ridden my motorcycles across the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and into the Himalayas here in India. I have a crazy dream of making it across the Arctic Circle on two wheels once I get settled in Sweden. Is it possible? I can’t wait to find out!
I’m not coming alone to Sigtuna. My french bulldog, Mr Spock, will be coming as well. I am a big fan of Star Trek, and I adopted him the same week of the 50th anniversary of the first episode. Also, he has the pointy ears and is a bit of a hobgoblin. Maybe he can become friends with Mr Wallace’s dog?
Looking forward to beginning the big adventure with you all in August!
